Genevieve's parents are still reeling from the news that their daughter is gay and she will no longer be marrying Paul, the man who they believe is the ideal son-in-law. Rejected by her family and friends, Genevieve makes a new life with Rebecca, the woman she has fallen in love with and she has never been happier.

D.C Isabelle Smith first encounters the couple when investigating a vicious attack on Genevieve along the embankment of the River Thames. Her investigation is hampered when Genevieve regains consciousness but cannot remember the attack, who she is or the woman she loves.

With great reluctance Rebecca has no choice but to let Genevieve return to her family and ex-fiance who will do what ever they can to steer her along the path they believe is the right one - the one that does not include Rebecca.

I read a sample of this story before I bought it, thinking it was going to be a love story of a woman fighting for her lover who was attacked and lost her memory. Instead this is a story of a woman, who through her stupidity and lack of spine, lets her lover be taken away by her lovers homophobic parents and never confesses to the love of her life that she is/was the love of her life and that they have been living together for four years in lesbian bliss. This is my major problem with this story -- I just couldn't accept that anyone would allow their lover to be taken away from them and not say a word to their lover about their past and that they loved them to bits, AND FIGHT FOR THEM! Everything else is this story is they typical story line of the psycho boyfriend out to destroy them, and the homophobic hyper religious parents. While I tried to enjoy this story, I could not accept the setup of a lover not expressing their feelings and loving history to their partner, even though their partner was injured. Bizarre!

143 edition by Jade Winters Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I don't normally write reviews but I enjoyed this book so much I just had to break that trend. I won't go into plot lines but I got so invested in the characters in this book that at one point I wanted to give Genevieve's parents a piece of my mind, I wanted to kick Pauls ass and I wanted to shake some sence into Rebecca (thankfully Tia did the last part for me). As far as I'm concerned I have spent way more on other books and not enjoyed them half as much. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed.
I was looking forward to this based on the initial preview but was sadly disappointed by the end. I felt that although the chemistry between the characters were good in parts and the story concept was reasonable somewhat, the ending seemed forced and rushed. It left me feeling that the characters didn't have the opportunity to bloom into the amazing love story it could have been. It seemed like the author was trying to put many twists in the plot but got lost along the way and left the story falling short in the end.
The love between the main characters was heart achingly beautiful. However, the story sadden me at the all to real hate people have towards the LGBT community, including parents who are suppose to love and protect their children. In the end, love prevailed.
I liked this book for so many reasons. First, back in the day when there were pagers, I always used to send "143" to my partner. I also used to play it in the lottery like it was my special secret. The love behind those three simple numbers is so obvious in this book. I immediately fell in love with the characters and honestly found myself a bit angry when Isabel came into the picture. I cheered for Rebecca for loving her partner so much that she would wait-knowing she would come back to her.
This book speaks volumes to how much hatred there is for love that is shared between two women. But it also speaks volumes to how strong that love is when they can ignore the ignorance of others and find peace with who they are! The book was well written and is a great read on a rainy day. I didn't want it to end. The author had me hooked from the first chapter and I couldn't stop reading until I was forced to because it said "the end". How about a part two?!
I stumbled across this book on my kindle. I don't remember downloading it. But I am glad I did. This story touch my heart. I understand why Rebecca didn't tell Genevieve about their relationship. Genevieve didn't remember her. I wanted to give those parents I piece of my mind. Then hit Paul over his head. I am glad I found d this book. I definitely recommend this book.
I have had this story on my ipad for years and finally had the time to read it. I did enjoy it. The writing was better than most. This was the first novel from this writer, and one can see improvement in style and pacing in her newer works. The premise was interesting. I wish there had been more of a resolution at the end with the main characters. The last chapter seemed a bit forced and not within the realm of even romantic story possibilities, but other than that, I'm glad I finally got to read this book. I will definitely be purchasing other titles by Jade Winters.
I was at first captured with the plot but unfortunately it began to fizzle out too soon. The story began with the intensity with which Rebecca and Genevieve, the main characters in this story, came together. I was impressed how the author made Genevieve bold and strong. She saw Rebecca and with one look into her eyes knew what she wanted. She didn't question whether it was appropriate or not. It was, after all "love at first sight"!

They were together for four years and remained very much in love until one day tragedy struck. I will explain my problem with the story -- when two people love each other and have been together as long as Rebecca and Genevieve had, it was unexpected that Rebecca would just fold like a house of cards at the first test to their commitment and journey through life together. I realize this is the author's prerogative to make her characters any which way she wants but give us readers a little credit. Stories need to have credibility, substance and character. I read this story because I had just finished reading "Guilty Hearts". I reviewed that book and saw "143" and based on the five star reviews, I decided to read it. I believe Ms. Winters has all the elements of a great writer. She obviously gives her characters substance and makes them endeared to her reader until the middle of the story and then Ms. Winters switches her style and makes it appear as though she has become bored with her creation and just rushes to the finish. I have mentioned this rush to end a story on my prior reviews of this author's work and I irritate again, give us, the reader, a little better glimpse into the main characters connection from beginning to end.
