I saw Paul Lyons on a cruise ship & laughed so hard each performance it was difficult to keep from peeing. I wanted a DVD of him but he doesn't have one. However, this book IS his routine. It's funnier in person (love the Star Wars music & cute dance he does thorough out his performance to keep us smiling), but this way you get to have his philosophy in print to remember & use. He has some pretty good one liners worth remembering & using in daily life. You won't regret spending the money on this small, quick, easy to read paperback.Product details

I saw Paul's act in Atlantic City and thought ,"Man this guy is funny". After the show this funny man was hawking this silly little book out front. I shook his hand and bought the book.When I returned home I tossed the book down somewhere and months later found in a a pile of stuff and starting reading. This silly little book with the silly title and the silly artwork wasn't so silly. Paul Lyons perhaps without even knowing has written a self help book through wonderful stories about his own life. Perfect read for any middle aged man.I found myself in so many ways in his writing. Being the middle child of 7 in my family I was always the odd ball trying to find my way through life both financially and in relationships,until I finally said,"Carpe Diem,Manana" myself. Thanks Paul I am going to make this a Christmas for my 5 brother-in-laws.
Well tomorrow is here so am I . I know this Paul Lyons character from when he mentored me in my comedy career. We spent a lot of fun times together with the exception of our road trip to Modesto. I knew Paul's writing from his comedy material but when I read his book I was floored with how good an essayist he is. The stories in this book are very entertaining and heartfelt. I especially liked the story about Paul's experience with a cougar and I don't mean the four legged kind. There are great stories about the evolution of some of his love affairs and his dealings with his curmudgeonly dad and his gang of brothers. In every story Paul dives in and mines all the gold aka humor and pathos out of each one. Before every new essay there is an insightful quote from some esteemed philosopher that foreshadows what the next story will be about. In conclusion I don't just go around giving all my friend's books 5 stars willy nilly. They have to earn my stars and Paul did. No wonder I don't have many friends who write books anymore.
Loved it! This book is laugh-out-loud funny at times and at other times incredibly sweet and sensitive. I admire the author's openness so much. He writes about things everyone thinks about and experiences but doesn't have the courage to talk publicly about. It's a charming book that lends itself to being savored in small bits like a rich dessert. You can open it to any page and find something to lift you up and make you laugh. This book is an interesting balance in that it does prompt you to think and helps you gain some insight into your own inner workings, but does it in a way that that is fun and joyful.
Just got off my thanksgiving cruise with Carnival and got to see Paul perform 3 days in a row.
His mixture of humor, personal narrative, and wise insight evident in his stand up show is what inspired me to buy the book. This was only an extension of his act. I could hear his voice reciting some of the pages.
Perhaps more inspirational is that Paul was willing to chat after every show and sat down with me and my brother, young guns to discuss our lives, problems, and experiences. Anything I can do to help Paul's message!
In this book Paul Lyons writes sensitive descriptions of day-to-day situations in which he finds himself and his approach to and take-aways from them. His gentle humor carries him through as he learns from each one. I highly recommend this - you won't be sorry.
I really enjoy this book! It reminds me of what is possible. I will not loan this book out to anyone. They can take a look at it while I'm holding it but that's it. I pick it up when doubts creep in about what can be created from the imagination. It's also very inspiring and funny.
I bought this because I saw this guy do his stand up comedy routine at a club recently and missed the opportunity to buy this book after his show. He is HILARIOUS, and so is his book! A fun read!
